8/16/43 Daughter's letter from Canada: "I am writing to you
because you are the one person who I believe can help us.
Having read your biography, and having heard personally from
Dr. [
3211] from New York (who is my brother-in-law, and who
spent some time with you) of the wonderful work you are
doing... I hope you will be willing to help my mother. She
came to visit me a couple of months ago from the states and
took ill very suddenly last week. So far, the doctors have
not been able to diagnose the case. X-rays reveal nothing.
She has taken no nourishment and is suffering greatly. I am
desperate and terrified lest they do the wrong thing,
particularly away up here, where medical attention is not
always perfect. I know you have many readings ahead of this
one, but beg you to help my mother now, before it is too
late. I do not, of course, have a formal application blank,
and there is not time to send for one, so I trust you will
accept this letter in lieu of one... Will you please answer
the following questions for her? (1) Why have I such a pain
in my back? (2) What has caused the lump on my side?
(3) What is wrong with my foot? (4) Can my foot be cured?
(5) What causes my nausea and lack of desire to eat? Please
be good enough to wire me collect on receipt of this, as my
mother is worrying about it and waiting in anticipation of a
word from you, her only hope."
5/15/44 Day Letter Collect to daughter in Canada: "Advise
exact address and questions for your reading Friday morning

5/16/44 Daughter's reply to Day Letter: "My mother Mrs.
[
5127] whose reading is scheduled for May 19 is now at home
of Mrs. E. R. L. [my sister] ..., New York. Please notify
her there hour of reading. Mrs. E. R. L. through Dr. [
3211]
was also to have reading 2 months ago. Will you advise my
sister of her reading also."
5/18/44 Telegram: "Questions are in original letter of
application sent last August by my daughter. Please explain
causes and cures for lump on side; pain in foot; shaking
hand; morning nausea; mental depression. Address Friday
morning is ..., N.Y."
