10/05/49 Letter: "Enclosed is the questionnaire you sent.
I have little opportunity to discuss this sort of thing,
although some of my friends are interested in the subject.
Each one seems to have a personal approach which is most
suitable for individual development. There is one paragraph
in my reading that I would like to know more about: 'Learn
the lesson of the interpreting of the dimensions of the
earth, or that are three dimensions in the mind...' The
first sentence is the one that is most difficult. If you
can direct me to any helpful reading on this, I shall be
very grateful to you. I have read my Life Reading 25 times,
probably more, and have read it with a few who are interested
in this subject. My reading seems a personal thing, and even
though no one has asked for a copy, it would be difficult to
give it to anyone I know now. I read it over about a month
ago, and have been reading along that line, and intend to
read it again soon. I don't believe that I have doubted the
Reading, and I keep trying to advance my understanding so
that I can fit myself into the Reading. Reincarnation is the
most satisfying explanation I know of. Until I know by my
own experience, I am willing to accept the word of those
in whom I have faith. Our experiences are the result of
previous deeds or thoughts, a purely personal experience
resulting from something one has done or thought in a
previous incarnation. My Reading, along with other reading
matter, it all influences one to be more charitable and
'judge not'. My Reading seemed to explain my interest
in a particular kind of reading and study. I have not
systematically set apart any part of my day or week for
introspection or self-analysis; not systematically but
'otherwise'. I have not learned an efficient procedure, with
regard to my vocation: I believe that I must be myself first
and my library work is an opportunity to serve according to
my ability. Always, before today, when I have read in my
Reading 'do right and write' I have thought it meant to begin
to write and to write the right things. But reading your
questions over, it seems to mean: 'Do the right thing and
begin to write.' I do not have the urge to write - it seems
that I have nothing to tell the world that has not already
been said better than I can say it. Unless letters to
my daughter which she told me are helpful, can be called
writing, I have done nothing about it."
11/01/49 HLC's letter: "...I suggest that you read
'Tertium Organum' by Ouspensky. This will be good
preparation for the lesson on 'Spirit' included in the second
book of 'A Search for God'. In this lesson, there is an
excellent dissertation on time, space and patience..."
