2/29/52 Wife's reply to questionnaire-letter: "...My husband
is admittedly stubborn. His father says he is part mule!
And as an overseer of men, is outstanding. His work in the
Navy for the past 4 or 5 years has been exclusively one of
handling difficult groups. First, a troop of colored sailors
who had been troublesome under other leaders; then, in
charge of German prisoners during the war years (for which
he received Navy commendations), and lately working military
prisoners in the sawmill at the Navy Salvage Yard. He is a
complete introvert, and as such, hard to interpret. Not even
I, his wife, can penetrate his mental armor. He does not
'think out loud', and there is little I can tell you of
his innermost thoughts. I can say, however, he believes
firmly and constantly that his Reading is true, is good, is
accurate. I wish that I could remember more of the exact
wording of his Reading, so that I could discuss it at more
length. I shall try - from California - to supplement
this with the Reading at hand. Oh yes, [
2533] and he feel
an instinctive antagonism, though they actually like one
another..."
