This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 5th day of June, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [5189], new associate Member of the Ass'n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

TEXT

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions as I ask them.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, [5189].
3. As we find, much may be said about the physical, as well as the mental attitudes of this body; and as to how they may, and do, react one upon the other.
4. That there are physical disturbances is apparent; that there is the ability in self to heal through self's own attitude is apparent, if that attitude is continuously in a constructive way and manner.
5. And the exercises which may be taken by body may aid, and be contributory to correcting the general conditions.
6. But as we find, if there would be the administrations of at least, about once every week for at least fifteen weeks, general relaxing osteopathic treatments, we wouldn't continue to stay under such stresses and there would be the greater ability of the body to control emotions, control constructive activities and be more creative in its mental attitude.
7. These we would do and as we find we will bring improvements to the circulation and the abilities of the body to control the locomotion to the desired activities.
8. To attempt to take normal activities under the present, and under what has existed would be harmful but it will aid in equalizing. This is not as medical, it is the body and mind being assisted in controlling physical, mental and spiritual emotions. Do that.

BACKGROUND

1. 7/19/43 Letter: "I have just finished reading TIR... First, I have for a great many years, suffered from 2 chronic ailments which have prevented my participation in any active work, though allowing me a nearly normal life otherwise. Secondly, I have made an informal study of psychic phenomena in recent years, and am profoundly impressed by what a full appreciation of their powers can accomplish... I cannot recall how my first contact with the book came about. I only know that for some reason I felt I must read it..."
2. 8/23/43 Letter: "...I am sorry I have to wait so long for an appointment, as I was hoping for some badly needed help very soon..."
3. 4/23/44 Letter: "...If possible, I want the answers to the following questions: (1) Have I done the proper thing in caring for myself the way I have, without constant medical attention? (2) Would I benefit from any change of regime, and if so, what should I do? (3) Would exercise to an average healthy person's capacity result in any unfavorable condition arising in me? (4) Should I make any change in my past and present diet? I assure you that I am awaiting the appointed time in a reverent mood, and have sincerest hopes that I may receive some benefit from the reading."

REPORTS

1. 9/26/49 Questionnaire returned with the following notation: "Results of treatment, none." No indication as to whether the osteopathic treatments or other suggestions in the Physical Rdg. were followed.
2. 10/05/49 Reply to questionnaire: "None". Notation by IMG: "The word 'none' appeared opposite the heading 'Results of Treatment'; also [5189]'s signature."
3. 2/06/52 IMG's questionnaire-letter: "...You will be interested to know that your Physical Reading was 'different' from the majority of Physical Readings; notwithstanding the fact that the 'suggestion' given was for a physical reading, actually the information in your reading would be classified as a 'Mental and Spiritual' Reading. For this type of reading, the suggestion was different, beginning with 'You will have before you the body and the inquiring mind of [...].' We have no explanation of why your reading came through as it did, but there should be much in it that you alone can understand. If there is anything that you would care to supply us along this line, which would tie in with the information in your reading, we would appreciate it very much. Such information would give a setting for the reading which would enhance its value for all practical purposes, as well as for research. Therefore, we are writing you again, for the purpose of receiving from you more details regarding your reading: ...Did you take as many as 15 osteopathic treatments (one a week), as suggested? If so, did you find these treatments to be at all beneficial...?"
