5/15/48 Letter: "I regret that I cannot make so good a
report as to my experience with the arthritic treatment as
I should like. Nevertheless, one hand has improved somewhat
during the past month. For that, I am most thankful and
hopeful for further improvement. However, my reaction in
other ways to the treatment has not been too favorable.
Seemingly, the Epsom Salts baths resulted in considerable
loss of weight and loss of energy each time. I was short
of both when starting the treatment, and because of faulty
digestion, assimilation, elimination, etc., was unable to
gain much between baths. Nevertheless, I persisted until I
began to feel a state of collapse, including nerves. So, the
doctor advised discontinuing the baths till I have gained in
these other ways. He is having me take extra vitamin tablets
and protein concentrate. Of late, I have begun to pick up
the energy, tho slowly. I assumed that 'no fats', as given
in the diet directions, includes no olive oil, butter, cream
or the like. So I avoided all such. But my doctor feels
that a quarter teaspoon olive oil once a day will be of more
benefit than harm. So I'm now taking that and a teaspoonful
or 2 of thin cream. No butter. For nuts, I'm using
practically all almonds. I can get these in fine ground meal
and the uncooked butter. Because of present condition of
teeth, cannot eat them well, otherwise. Fresh, raw peanut
butter is available, too; but I've seemed doubtful as to
whether peanuts should be used. Some of the food items,
salsify for one, has not been in the markets here this winter
passed. So I have just used more of the other vegetables
suggested. The artichokes are now out of season. They
insist on growing no matter how treated. Later, I'll
have a good back-yard crop.
The instrument my doctor has, which, he says is the same as
the Wet Cell Appliance, did not seem to be the best thing
for me. It continued to irritate my skin very much, tho used
only twice a week. So he returned to giving me the radio
short-wave - the oscilloclast - twice a week, when I go for
adjustment. Then at home, on days that I do not have the
short wave, I use my little radio active appliance. Of
course, I'm keeping up the daily oil rubs and having at the
intervals, colonics. To some extent, the treatment is quite
similar to that advised in my own Physical Reading. And the
diet is much like that which I have been on for years. Tho
was eating apples, tomatos, etc. Also, to considerable
extent, I'm repeating much of the same conditions I had when
my Physical Reading was given. I never became entirely free
from them, tho did improve very much. I feel that, in some
way, my Physical Reading was not carried out correctly. Tho
do not know just what. Some of that given on the mental
spiritual side, I did not understand too well. However,
the admonition to follow the teachings of the Master seemed
to sum it all up. So I bent my efforts in this direction
and did not worry about the rest. I began the arthritic
treatment in January. After each series of Atomidine, took
Gold Chloride for about 2 weeks, followed by Epsom bath, a
bath every 15 days, as suggested for advanced cases (In Group
2). I'll appreciate any suggestions regarding the treatment.
Should I continue this above mentioned schedule of Atomidine
and Gold Chloride tho the Salts bath is omitted temporarily,
or taken at less frequent intervals? I assume whole wheat
bread can be substituted for the black bread suggested with
the red wine. Black bread not available. I have mostly
avoided bread altogether, even whole wheat. But recently,
have started taking an ounce of Port wine and a thin slice
of whole wheat bread toasted daily. Perhaps it will aid in
energy pick up. Am using this between meals, assuming it
should not be taken with other foods."
5/17/48 Letter: "I'd like to ask another question regarding
the Salts bath: Would it be of benefit if one stayed in the
hot solution only for about 10 minutes, taking the bath every
2 or 3 weeks? At best, I have not been able to stand the
soaking for more than about 20 minutes. Inclined to become
too faint. The arthritic condition is mostly in wrists
and muscles of arms and shoulders. As I mentioned, one
has improved some. Less pain and stiffness. The other now
seems getting worse in shoulder. At intervals, I experience
prickly all-over sensations, breaking out with perspiration,
feeling faint. Had this when my own Physical Reading
was given. The hot baths seem to bring on such a spell,
making it more difficult to stay in the water for a longer
period..."
9/16/48 Letter: "...The arthritis condition has improved
very much in my right wrist. Still some soreness of the
joint and, at intervals, some pain there and in the muscles
of my arm, but much less than formerly. Also, the swelling
of the joint has reduced quite noticeably. Aside from having
lack of strength in this wrist, I now can use it almost
normally. Naturally, I am greatly thankful. The left wrist,
knees, and ankles remain about the same, but have become no
worse. There is swelling only in the wrist. 'Gratiness'
in the other joints and more or less pain much of the
time. Pain in the shoulders seems more muscular; the same
manifesting frequently in legs between knees and ankles...
The nerve trouble I have is seemingly aggravated to
considerable extent by the colonics. So the doctor,
temporarily is having me use frequent enemas instead.
He intends soon to give me some sort of dilation and
manipulation treatment of colon, etc. in effort to stimulate
the muscles toward returning to normal activity. But
regardless of all the above complaints, I have gained
considerably in energy and a pound or 2 in weight. I feel
encouraged, in spite of spells of seemingly going into
reverse, and continue hopeful. Thanks for your advice about
the beef juice and the enclosed instructions for making it.
The EAT TO LIVE booklet has the instructions too, as you
know, and I was contemplating trying it, but wasn't sure that
it was best for me until receiving your letter. Regarding
the Epsom Packs, thought it might be more effective to soak
wrists and ankles in a pail of the hot solution. The doctor
believed this would do no harm, if I did not keep my feet
immersed for long enough to cause excessive perspiring. So
have used that method, with the hot packs on the knees, once
a week..."
11/22/48 Letter: "...I am most grateful to report that the
arthritic condition continues to improve, though slowly. I
now am greatly free from pain much of the time, other than
in the left wrist. And of late, it is beginning to show
improvement. The swelling of the right wrist joint and (I
had a lump there as big as a walnut), has almost vanished, as
has most of all stiffness and sensitiveness in this spot...
I remain very much underweight. My doctor doesn't approve
of that. He advises that I take at least one egg yolk a
day...since the yolk contains some fat, so have not used
it other than very sparingly..."
3/21/49 Letter: "...My general health condition has not been
doing well at all for some weeks. Consequently, more trouble
from the arthritis. Perhaps if I had the Wet Cell Appliance
and used it daily, it might be of more benefit to me in my
present condition than my radio-active appliance...tell me if
when the Gold Chloride Solution is used with the Appliance,
is it also taken internally...any suggestions as to length
of period one should take the Gold Chloride when alternating
with the Atomidine? I have been using it from 10 days to 2
weeks between the periods of taking the Atomidine..."
3/26/49 Notation by GD: "I enclosed extract from Case [
1224]
Physical Reading giving directions for using the Wet Cell
Appliance carrying Gold and Atomidine. I also wrote saying
that I understood you have been taking these properties
internally. If you switched to the use of the Wet
Cell carrying the properties vibratorially, you
should discontinue taking them internally..."
8/05/49 Letter: "...Changed to Wet Cell Appliance Feb. 1949,
using with it Gold Chloride and Atomidine... After first
month as a result of lack of improvement and certain
symptoms, doctor felt that there was need of more iodine.
So suggested returning to using Atomidine and Gold Chloride
internally, taking Wet Cell daily treatment without. For
past number of weeks improvement in evidence especially in
nerve condition and digestion. Arthritis remaining about
the same, but at least, is no worse..."
2/21/50 Letter: "...All in all, I feel it most remarkable
that the arthritis condition has improved to the extent it
has and seems to be well under control, in spite of all the
other bodily disturbances... Also, the Salts baths were
discontinued after a few months, as too much loss of weight
and energy resulted. Soaked hands and wrists in a pail of
the hot solution instead, using packs on knees."
12/27/51 Reply to questionnaire: "Enemas instead of
colonics, because of less nerve irritation following. At
first, hot salts soaks only for hands, wrists, feet and
ankles; too much weight loss otherwise. Later all-over
baths. Gradual improvement, after a month or so of
treatment. Pain slowly lessened; swelling diminished. Now
swelling entirely gone; some pains occasionally, generally
of short duration. Continuing the treatment, modified under
doctor's direction, to keep the tendency under control.
Still have liver and digestive trouble, manifesting severely
at intervals. So is remarkable that, under such condition,
the arthritis yielded to the treatment."
2/24/52 Reply to questionnaire-letter: "...Yes, I recall
very clearly the weather condition at the time of my reading.
It decidedly was wet during the entire morning. Although
to us, living in the coastal area of the northern part of
California, it was just one of our air-conditioning summer
fogs, not real rain. Frequently a first time and uninformed
visitor here, when encountering weather of this kind, thinks
'rain...' until someone explains that its only a thick fog
and likely will start clearing away in a few hours. However,
it was wet enough to pass for light, misty rain at the hour
my reading was given. And when the report came and I read
that statement, 'Yes, raining' I marvelled that an individual
mind, going places all by itself, would give attention to
such things as weather behavior, just as those do who bring
their physical bodies along with them. At intervals during
the summer months here, August especially, fog blows in from
the ocean. Frequently it is 'high fog' which stays skyward
and doesn't wet things. Again, it may be 'low fog' of
varying degrees of dampness. When at its extreme, as was
the case on the morning of my reading, it is a very heavy
mist. The fine droplets, after a time, collect on eaves and
vegetation and start dripping off, like rain."
3/25/53 She wrote: "In a former letter to me you asked
regarding the statement in my reading 'raining'. I answered
that the morning was drippy wet, but we called it 'fog' here.
But think I did not answer your question about it being
officially that. So the enclosed clipping gives detail
on the matter."
Enclosed newspaper article clipping:
Call it Rain Or Fog, More Of Same Due
For the benefit of tourists and others who were up early
today, that really was a drizzle that blanketed the Bay Area,
but it's still officially classified as "fog" hereabouts.
The U.S. Weather Bureau said today's dampness was caused by
a thousand feet of moisture over the region, "and some of it
floats down." But it's fog and there'll be more of the same
today and tomorrow.
The Bay Area forecast calls for high fog in the mornings
with fair afternoons today and tomorrow. But along the
Coast the high fog will remain. There'll be little change in
temperatures, with the San Francisco mercury remaining at a
high of about 59 degrees, Oakland 67, San Mateo 73 and San
Rafael 75. Lot tonight will be 53 degrees.
