6/19/44 Letter: "About 10 years ago I had a serious
operation when 2 large ovarian tumors were removed along with
a good portion of the female organs as well as the appendix.
At that time I was told that the gall bladder was not up to
par, that it contained what is known as stones but were small
like coarse sugar, and that they probably would never grow
larger, so will you kindly check on that also." 1. What
causes terrible pains in stomach frequently, attacks usually
coming at 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning? 2. In what
condition is the heart? Frequently with the least strenuous
exertion the pressure goes way up, so that I almost pass out
in a faint. 3. Any suggestions for the gall bladder? Are
there indications of stones? 4. What causes painful feeling
all over abdomen, frequently occurring in mornings upon
arising, as if whole abdomen were turned upside down? Does
that have something to do with the menopause period? 5. What
is cause of my obesity? Is it inherited? Ever since I was
16, I have been been trying to reduce but without success;
have tried dieting, pills, certain exercises which I could
do, but still I seem to stay overweight, yet I use no sugar,
eat very little sweets or pastries, and am constantly
watching calories, and eat only the plainest foods and
nothing fried, on account of having to cook for a husband
[
3604], who has such a delicate stomach, etc. 6. Is there a
chance of losing weight after the menopause is over? 7. What
causes frequent severe headaches on top of head which last
about 3 days, and how may they be prevented? 8. What is
wrong with the side of my right foot? The little toe seems
to have corns inside as well as on the outside and no matter
what I do, I cannot get rid of them, so I have to keep corn
plasters on them constantly, and then too the pain extends
down the side of the foot about half way, at times that alone
is so painful I can't get shoes on; have already changed shoe
styles and sizes, so that now I am wearing only oxfords with
military height and built in arch supports and a full size
larger than what I could wear, yet I cannot get rid of the
soreness nor the corns. 9. What can I do to get rid of the
corns?
REPORTS
8/12/49 Address unknown for [
5290]. Report requested by GD
from Dr. John Pike, and given
8/18/49 as follows: "Mrs.
[
5290] started treatment
10/05/44 and made very satisfactory
progress, although treatment was interrupted by colds (2)
during the next 3 weeks. It was impossible to sufficiently
impress her with the necessity of losing weight, however, and
she lost only a few pounds. She was sympathetically much
improved on
1/11/45, when she was here last time. I have not
seen her since that time... Mr. [
3604] sold or abandoned his
business and moved from here several months ago."
6/24/60 Report on 5290-1, Par. 18-A for Warts, by Mrs. Nellie
Scranton: "I should like to tell you of the success we had
in removing warts from our daughter's thumb. Her thumb along
side of the nail had eight warts on it. It was unsightly
with these warts. She is a sensitive youngster at eleven -
very fussy about her appearance, and is especially careful
with grooming her hands. After just a few applications of
the baking soda-spirits of camphor treatment, the warts
dissolved, and now her thumb is perfectly 'clean'. So we
feel the results were wonderful."
