9/11/30 EC's letter to [
4631]'s brother: "...I have yours of
the 6th. I appreciate your writing me very, very much. I
feel very sure that none of the people in ... realize just
how ill Brother [
5473] was when he left there. He is not
anything like the rumors that have been circulated, from what
you say in your letter. It's purely a case of nerve
exhaustion, or he has overtaxed himself so much - physically
AND mentally that his body just gave way. We have just now
been able to get him relaxed. Now, if some other conditions
do not develop that we are not aware of at the present time -
he should in the next few weeks be on the road to a sure and
permanent recovery. One so thoroughly given out as he is,
though, it's liable to develop most anything. I don't say
this to make it at all alarming, or to leave the impression
with you that we expect to raise him from the dead or
anything of that kind, but I believe if he will stay long
enough we will be able to do a great deal of good for him, if
it can be done by anyone. Mrs. [
310] is having a hard, hard
fight. How she holds up under the strain I don't know - but
we are doing everything that we can to make it just as easy
for them both as possible. In the first place, you know my
own family and I personally think the world and all of
Brother and Mrs. [
310] - and we appreciate most surely the
work that he has done for the Church and the people there in
... I just am in hopes that every member of his congregation
will realize how much he has expended of himself in their
behalf, and won't forget to pray for him occasionally. He
needs it, as well as all the rest of us. Of course, I won't
say anything about this letter - and what I'm saying to you
is just for you, to be sure.
"Again thanking you, and assuring you that we are doing
everything in our power - and want you to feel free to write
me at any time - asking to be remembered to all, and with
kindest personal regards to yourself, I am sincerely..."
