To one (1) gallon of rain water, or distilled water, add:
Wild Cherry Bark.......................6 ounces.
Reduce this by simmering, slow simmering, to one-half (1/2)
the quantity. Then add 4 ounces of beet sugar and reduce to
1/2 the quantity again, STIRRING same most of the time that
there may be no change in the character produced by the
properties in sugar and in the juice from the barks, as to
change it, as a form of burn. This as a carrier. To this
we would add:
Compound Syrup of Sarsaparilla.......1/2 ounce,
Tincture of Stillingia...............1/4 ounce,
Syrup of Rhubarb.....................1/4 ounce,
Elixir Calisaya......................1/2 ounce,
Oil of Sassafras......................40 minims,
Fluid Extract of Burdock..............40 minims.
Shake solution well together before the dose is taken, and
the dose would be teaspoonful 4 times each day.
Use as a spray for nostrils and throat a weakened solution of
Dobell's solution - half and half - used in spray. This at
least once each day.
After these have been taken for the required time, begin
then with the manipulations - OSTEOPATHICALLY given - as will
correct those lesions as exist in the centers close about
the radial plexuses of the lower and upper system, or the
brachial and the locomotaries of the lower portion - or
sciatic centers.
We would also be careful of the diet. Let these be rather of
the alkalin reacting. The JUICES of meats, however, may be
taken. NOT the flesh, save fowl or wild game, and not GREAT
quantities of this.
We would begin also, when the manipulations are given, to use
as a stimuli those of small quantities of brandy to which a
small quantity - or this proportion: To 4 ounces of apple
brandy add Oil of Juniper 10 minims. The dose of this would
be, or when taken, about half teaspoonful whenever there is
irritation.
We would keep also those of the sprays until the throat and
lungs are cleared.
Do not OVERTAX system, physically or mentally. We will find
bettered conditions for this body, [

We are through for the present.

BACKGROUND
8/29/29 "As Mrs. Coyner told you I have been in bad shape
for several years, so desire a physical reading... She has
told me of wonderful cures accomplished by you - I only hope
I shall be as fortunate - I am sure I shall - I have no
other thought - have improved since coming here [Colo.]."
1/05/30 See letter [5492-1, Par. R3] giving some background
information as to her trouble.
REPORTS
12/06/29 Letter: "...The psychic reading of myself has been
received. I think it quite remarkable, as you have never
seen me, yet the reading is what has been told me by those
who have examined me. I sincerely hope that I can find great
relief, I should say a cure from your treatment. I shall do
as you wish me to, in every respect, except the apple brandy
you prescribed for me. It is not to be had at any of the
drugstores in my town. I have some very fine Kentucky
pre-war whiskey. It will be several days before I can begin
the medicine, as there was no wild cherry bark in town - this
had to be ordered. I am hoping for a great change in the
near future. My maid, since my return from Colorado has
massaged me - also used a vibrator and violet ray on my
body everyday. Shall I discontinue these treatments?..."
12/16/29 EC's letter: "...I would suggest that after you
have taken the treatment for three or four weeks you make an
appointment for another reading to check up on the condition,
to know just what result you are getting and to suggest any
change in the manner of administering the treatments.
"As to the massage and violet ray, I don't know that this
would be necessary to change - but when you begin with the
treatments suggested in the reading, I would follow them
just as given, leaving off other things - unless you find
it absolutely necessary that they be added..."
1/05/30 Letter: "...I don't want you to think that I have
been derelict in carrying out your suggestions, since I have
not written you recently. In the first place, I have done
exactly as you suggested, as my condition is of such long
duration I cannot expect to have instant relief; however,
I am better, the muscles of my body and limbs have not that
tense, hard feeling which they formally had. The trouble of
the lumbar seems to be much more stubborn to get relief from,
yet I can see improvement. I do not have so much pain from
it. However, I cannot stoop over without the greatest of
pain. After I have gone to bed at night is when I suffer the
most, when I relax. Both of my limbs pain me very much, the
right one is mostly below the knee, the pain is one of aching
to the bone - the sensation is awful. The left one aches
just at the knee, on the outside. My doctor says that these
pains come from the sciatic nerve. I have had this trouble
for more than a year and a half; however, for the past two
weeks the pain has been worse - have not been able to go to
sleep unless I took an aspirin tablet for relief. I shall
always carry out your instructions, as I have been a sufferer
for years and am anxious to be free from pain if possible.
"Am enclosing a check for another reading. Hope I shall be
free for the engagement - for with all of my suffering I go
out a great deal..."
2/06/30 Letter in answer to Cayce Hospital Questionnaire: "I
have been writing Mr. Edgar Cayce direct, supposing that was
the correct thing to do, and that he would report. I have
carried out to the best of my ability the instructions given
me. I have been such a sufferer for years and am anxious to
get relief. My muscles, I think, have improved some; they
are not as tense, my circulation is better. The suffering
from the lumbar and sciatic nerve is not much better, in fact
I have suffered more after retiring than ever in my life with
the pain in my limbs, from the hips to knee, on left limb
- the right one down to the ankle - frequently have had to
resort to aspirin. Perhaps our unusually cold winter has
had something to do with the pain. Have taken the medicine
regularly. We have not a first-class osteopath in town.
Each day, however, I have a treatment. I am to have another
reading February 10 - sincerely hope my next letter may be
more encouraging..."
2/10/30 EC gave the second reading -
