This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 5th day of November, 1928, in accordance with request made by her uncle, Mr. [...], through Mr. [5540].

TEXT

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here. Now, we find there are those conditions as are hard to combat with, when they have reached the present outlook, or the bacilli has reached that condition where the numbers of same so OUTNUMBER the normal rebuilding or replenishing functioning of the physical being.
2. These (we don't find their name, but) in shape are that of the scorpion, and are attacking the vital forces, or through the blood supply, which in turn attacks the vitality of the body, taking from the serums of the system that which gives to the bone, to the vital forces, even in the return nerve energy in the system. Hence these are hard to combat with.
3. That as we find that would bring the better reaction and, perchance, give the vital forces the opportunity to gain in supremacy in the system - (and that of necessity would mean other conditions; that is, the air that is breathed, the foods as taken, the water as nourished with, would be in keeping with these administrations) - we would prepare, then, as this: This PREFERABLY given in capsule, and this in each dose, and not more than one dose every OTHER day, see?

   Oil of Eucalyptus..........1 minim,
Canadian Balsam..........1/2 minim,
Rectified Oil of Turp....1/2 minim,
Benzosol.................1/2 minim.

   This, as we find, will give the system the opportunity to see - through the change - the effect these various conditions internally have upon the system. Eucalyptol acting (internally) directly for the respiratory system. The Balsam as that of a clarifier of the blood, separating in its activity that portion which COMES to be in the system the ability to form the differentiation between white and red blood; while with the REST of the reaction of the Balsam and the Turp will act directly with the portions of kidneys that will AID the respiratory system as in reference TO the action of the lymphatic circulation and the hepatic circulation; while those of the Benzosol (Be sure it's this Benzosol, see?) will act WITH the other properties to assist the activity of the respiratory system, and heart stimulant, and also separating in the liver in the form that will assist in division in the eliminations and assimilation in system.
4. Then used (these same properties) in different proportion with these, as an inhalant, see? for the respiratory system. So we change these in a different vibration:
5. To 4 ounces of pure grain alcohol, add:

   Eucalyptol................20 minims,
Rectified Creosote........10 minims,
Rectified Oil of Turp......8 minims,
BENZOIN...................15 minims,
Canadian Balsam............5 minims,
Tolu in Solution.........1/4 ounce.

   Keep the solution in a container at least twice the size of the quantity, with a glass stopper. Shake solution when this is inhaled, and it may be inhaled either as the stimulant for the tendency of cold, congestion, or for the heart's reaction. So it may be inhaled through the nostrils and through the mouth, two, three, four times each day.
6. Let the diet consist of the JUICES of meats, especially of beef, - that is only lean - and only the JUICE, no flesh of same taken.
7. Take as much olive oil as the system will assimilate, beginning with only a few drops, and adding a drop or two each day, taking one dose each day.
8. Also use Scott's Codliver Oil, or Emulsion. This will of necessity (in the present condition) be better absorbed than taken internally. Massage this, then, in the arm pits, the groins, across the intestines, see? This will assist.
9. The food diets, other than that of the meat juices, should be nuts and fruits - but no apples. Especially pears, oranges and such. Especially pears. This will aid the system, as we find at present.
10. The water should carry small quantities of lithia and, alternately, small quantities of white sulphur. This may be obtained - much of that, as is seen - were it made half and half with pure water, or carbonated water - as the white sulphur from White Sulphur Springs; and the lithia may be taken once each week.
11. We would give further directions when these have been carried out for twenty-seven days. Do that at present.

13. (Q) What is this condition commonly called?
    (A) This has been called VARIOUS conditions. This almost a true case of pellagra.

1. 10/17/28 Letter from [5540]: "...He has been a life long friend of mine and I am particularly interested in a niece of his whose condition has been baffling the doctors for some time and who personally I would like to see assisted if we could, and as she is living with him and is the only living relative that he has, he too is particularly interested and I believe that we can do a very good piece of work here by having him as a member..."
2. 10/29/28 Letter from [5540]: "...I will appreciate your telling me what is the matter with her and what can be done to remedy her condition, if anything..."

REPORTS

1. 11/15/28 Report from [5536]: "This reading appears to fit my condition. It is a case of paralysis in the lower limbs following a case of poisoning from eating a hamburger sandwich, four months after an operation to remove the appendix that was found grown to the liver and gall bladder. I expect to follow the suggestions as soon as our druggist can obtain some of the medicines. We will again write to you at the end of twenty-seven days after beginning the treatment..."
