8/26/29 Letter from [
5607]'s father, an electrical engineer,
an executive with a large electrical firm; he previously had
obtained his own physical reading:
"...Knowing how very busy you are it is with much reluctance
that I write to ask for some of your valuable time.
My little girl has me considerably worried and medical
attendance here do not seem to be making much progress.
"[
5607] was five years old May 17. About four weeks ago
she awoke around midnight coughing and vomiting. I got
bicarbonate of soda and water down her and cleared it up, she
was o.k. the remainder of the night and two days when at the
same time the same procedure was repeated. This kept up for
about two weeks. Dr. Pierson of Baldwin [Long Island] found
nothing very wrong; however, gave her citrato-carbonate to
make her system alkaline. About the third week she repeated
these spells every night (once). This was followed by an
attack of diarrhea which took a week to clear up to about
75% normal (still not o.k.). This work was done by Dr.
Alice Higgins of Rockville Center, Long Island, who has
been attending her for about six days. She used castor oil
followed by taking all foods from her excepting crackers,
toast, Farina, cream of wheat, buttermilk, broth, rice,
jello.
"We desire a physical reading of her condition advising
what is wrong. What should be done for the child medically?
What should be done for her in diet? Is Dr. Alice Higgins
a suitable doctor to attend her? Is bathing in salt water
detrimental to her? Is exposure to sunshine detrimental
to her? Can manufactured ice cream as on the market here
be included in her diet? Can any information be given as
to the direct cause of her upset, such as might indicate
certain normal foods detrimental to her system?
"Also chocolate was on Dr. Higgin's diet list. Although
refusing to eat much of any of these except for crackers, she
had a vomiting spell again this morning at 5 A.M. (milk was
added to her diet yesterday - we stopped it today). She has
lost four of her forty pounds weight.
"We would certainly appreciate your assistance and I am
enclosing a list of questions for the director of this
reading if you can do this favor for us..."
