This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of April, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Dr. [5733], new Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [2072].

TEXT

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
2. EC: Winterhur - isn't it pretty! Nice, beautiful stream - that's a good place to fish!
3. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [5733].
4. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them here, there is much that is good, there is much that may be questioned by many.
5. We would refer this entity, and not as in ridicule, to that written by one Franklin, whom the entity knew in an experience; also to the life of the patriarch known as Abram or Abraham - on tolerance. This might apply very well to this entity. Not that the entity hasn't the knowledge, the understanding, but it is so lacking in patience with others, and lacking in tolerance with those who see, believe or have confidence in other directions.
6. There is much to be commended, though, in the experiences and the application of the tenets of the entity itself. But know, as should each soul, that all that may be interpreted in thy mind, in thy body, as to truth or metaphysics is only that ye do apply in thy daily life. One can only know by experience. We only hear of others and their application of principles and tenets in their dealings with an application to things pertaining to the activities in the earth.
7. Astrological aspects to this entity, in the present, mean little. It is indicated that Mars and Mercury are parts of the consciousness. These have been more or less discarded except that stubbornness in the experience so oft, which has not been entirely eliminated from the experience of the entity.
8. Thus the sojourns of the entity in the earth become the greater ruling influences. But, as indicated, the greater study of man is man. The entity will find that it is made up of, or in fact is, a body, a physical being, visible; a mind, a body. Only the effects of same may be seen in that which causes the entity to speak or to act in this or that manner towards its fellow man. Then it is the soul-body or the entity, that is eternal. These are one; just as the material concept of the Creative Force is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and the answer to those influences as of the bodies represented in the individual entity. These should be treated as such, for each has its attributes and that in which it is affected by or affects or acts upon in response to the same influences in the individuals whom the entity may call friends or foes. But if you would have friends, be friendly. If you would be forgiven, you must forgive, if you would be thought well of, think well of others - not for thine own individual self, but for that which is thy ideal, that the principles and purposes, hopes and desires of self may be glorified in the earth.
9. As to the appearances in the earth:
10. Before this the entity was in the land of the present sojourn, being a typesetter for the Poor Richard's Almanac. You should recognize much of this. You didn't agree with it then; you don't agree with it yet! However, these are the principles that are living influences in the activity of others.
11. The name then was Hans Schmedel. The entity was a good workman and also a good arguer. It hasn't lost much of that ability to argue, if the opening is given as to principles. Does nature argue with itself or does it work with itself? Do the sunshine and the rain become as warriors or do they combine their efforts to present to you, as to the rest of mankind, that which works together for good, of that which would be an increase in the knowledge of the Creative Forces?
12. Before that the entity was in the Grecian land when there were those teachings beginning to be attempted by those who would follow physical, mental and purposeful (though they didn't call it spirit then) activities.
13. There the entity, in the name Echarn, was a recorder of those records for the groups who would make application of certain principles in their relationships one to another. Thus we find abilities in composition, in records, in activities that may deal with spiritual, mental and material things. These are then the pattern of the entity.
14. Before that the entity was in the Arabian and Persian land, in "the city in the hills and the plains".
15. The entity was among those travelers who journeyed from the east to the west, or from the Mongoloid land as well as the golden land, or that known now as Indo-China, to the Egyptian land.
16. Thus the entity was as a traveling teacher, yet engaged in supplying goods from one portion of the land or group of people to the other as a director of a caravan.
17. These have been and are yet a part of the experience. The entity can tell many a person what they ought to do that he doesn't do himself, with their own principles, their own goods and their own teachings!
18. Remember what has been given, that what is creative or helpful is only that ye apply thyself. That is the prompting of the teacher. For ye live that ye say.
19. Before that the entity was in Egypt when there were those activities in the Temple of Sacrifice.
20. There the entity was active in the suggestive manners for aiding individuals to change their manner of thought. For there the entity learned that mind is ever the builder. The entity has almost unlearned it in some other experiences, yet it is a part of the experience of the entity.
21. As to the abilities of the entity, that to which it may attain, and how:
22. Study self in association with that ye hold as ideal physically, as ideal mentally, as ideal spiritually. Find where and when these coordinate and then apply same in self's own experience.
23. Ready for questions.
24. (Q) What should be the life work?
    (A) As the pattern is set out, the entity has been an assistant in distributing, in giving out that which to others is as life itself. And life is truth. Truth is love. Love is God. God is life.
